The Fun with Words app is an enjoyable way for children to practice reading high frequency words through playing games. This app contains 49 words; they are common, high frequency words that children need to learn to recognise by sight. Some of the words are decodable, but the aim of the app is to get children recognising and reading all the words quickly, without decoding them. There are also additional cards that are added to the app, which do not feature in the physical set.
The 3 different games on the app are designed to help your child quickly recognise and read the words, building reading confidence, whilst having fun at the same time! As well as the games, the app has a free play mode where you can scroll through the entire card set to consolidate learning.
Help Biff catch the words. 6 flashcards are shown on screen and a word is played. Tap on the word that was read out to add it to Biff’s bucket. A more advanced game for children who can read or sound out a full word.
Familiarise yourself with the words in the app, flipping through the all cards section. A microphone button lets you record your children so that they can listen back to the words as they’re reading them. Use the cards as a prompt for reading or spelling tests outside of the prescribed app games.
One of the words on the flashcards will be split into separate letters. An audio prompt will play. Rearrange the letters into an order to make the word that was read out. A game for children who are starting out with learning to spell.
12 cards will be shown face down. Tap on the cards to help Biff, Chip and Kipper find all six matching pairs. This game reinforces reading skills through example audio.
