The rhyming games app is a fun way for children to practise recognising rhyming letter patterns, both aurally and in writing. This app contains 34 rhyming pairs of words, 68 words in total. These words can be read by children who know the sounds of the letters of the alphabet, plus the sounds made by combinations of letters: ch, sh and ck. In addition to the simple three letter words like cat, there are a number of four letter words which begin or end with two consonants, like tent and twin.
The three different games on the app – Fishing, Word Builder and Sound Snap – will help your child to recognise and read the rhyming words, building their confidence while they have fun.
Help Biff catch the words. 6 flashcards are shown on screen and a word is played. Find and tap on a word that rhymes with the word that was read out to add it to Biff’s bucket. A more advanced game for children who can read or sound out a full word.
Familiarise yourself with the words in the app, flipping through the all cards section. A microphone button lets you record your children so that they can listen back to the words as they’re reading them. Use the cards as a prompt for reading or spelling tests outside of the prescribed app games.
One of the words on the flashcards will be split into separate letters. An audio prompt will play. Rearrange the letters into an order to make a word that rhymes with the word that was read aloud. A more advanced game for children who are beginning to spell independently.
Help kipper collect matching words. Two flashcards are shown face up on screen. Snap if they rhyme (for example ‘six’ and ‘mix’), or mark as a mismatch if they do not. This game helps learn sounds through comparison.
