Visual Scene Displays and Aphasia

According to Dietz et al. (2006), context-rich photographs can establish an effective communication medium for adults with aphasia who use AAC. Scene & Heard Pro lets you take photos in your environment to use for Visual Scene Displays.

Here is how to add Visual Scenes in Scene & Heard Pro:

To add visual scenes in Scene & Heard Pro, follow these steps:

  1. Open the App: Launch the Scene & Heard Pro app on your device.

  2. Create a New Scene:

    • Navigate to the main screen.

    • Tap on the "+" or "New Scene" button to create a new scene.

  3. Name the Scene:

    • Enter a title for your scene in the provided text box.

  4. Add a Background Image:

    • Tap on the "Background" or "Add Image" option.

    • Choose to upload an image from your device's gallery, take a new photo using the camera, or select an image from the app's built-in library.

  5. Add Hotspots:

    • Once the background image is set, you can add hotspots (interactive elements) to the scene.

    • Tap on the "Add Hotspot" button.

    • Place the hotspot on the desired location on the image.

    • Customize the hotspot by adding labels, images, sounds, or videos.

  6. Customize Hotspots:

    • After placing a hotspot, you can edit it to make it interactive.

    • Add images, sounds, text, or video clips to each hotspot by selecting the appropriate options.

    • You can also link hotspots to other scenes for navigation.

  7. Save the Scene:

    • Once all hotspots are added and customized, tap on the "Save" button to save your scene.

    • Review your scene by testing the hotspots to ensure they work as intended.

  8. Organize Scenes:

    • If you have multiple scenes, organize them in the desired order within the app's menu.

    • You can link scenes together using the hotspots, creating a navigable visual story or communication board.

  9. Test and Use:

    • Go through the scenes to ensure everything works as expected.

    • Use the scenes for visual storytelling, communication, or educational purposes.

  10. Export or Share (Optional):

    • If needed, you can export or share your scenes with others through the app’s export or sharing features.
